It's the People, People
It’s the time of year when we all reflect backward and look forward. And personally, when I look backward, the most enjoyable aspects of the past year are not what I’ve done, but who I’ve gotten to know.
In 2008, thanks largely to Twitter, I had the privilege of getting to know some great folks like Shawn Blanc, Patrick Rhone, Andy Parkinson and Michael Mistretta.
And 2009...
I’ve always liked Tumblr from a distance, but looking at it close up for the...

Pastebot: It Really Is Magic
I’ve heard nothing but good about this app and I can understand why. It just works, and the careful thought in the design comes through in your usage.
One example that caught my attention was how the app handles previously copied items. I frequently access the Clipboard in LaunchBar to access items that I had previously copied:
But do I want that same item copied to Pastebot multiple...

YouVersion Reading Plans
I started using a great new web app by the name of YouVersion this year. It’s aimed at those who read the Bible. An just in time for the New Year, when many people are setting goals for their Bible reading, the YouVersion team has added 31 various reading plans.
I’ve made it a goal in years past to read through the Bible, but haven’t in the last couple to change things up....

The Best Web Tutorial Article I've Ever Come...
As a hobbyist in the area of web design, I’ve read a lot of articles over the years regarding various aspects of the industry. Many of them were tutorials, but tutorials that were only helpful to experienced professionals because of large gaps and missing ingredients.
Having just finished Meagan Fisher’s “Make Your Mockup in Markup” on 24 ways, I have to say this is probably the...

A New Skin
Unless you’ve only been following along here in the tumblr Dashboard or in a feed reader, you’ll have noticed that the design has been updated. I just wanted to say thanks to a couple of key contributors.
Theme: the tumblr theme I’m using is the recently launched Helvetica from the geniuses at MetaLab. I’ve tweaked it significantly, but it’s a great framework to...

OS X App Installs
There has been a lot of great discussion over this issue in the past, but I’m still left wishing for some consistency. Two recent downloads illustrated this nicely:
Here’s a lovely illustration that comes with the newest release of Camino. Unfortunately, it’s only that — an illustration. It does a decent job of describing to the user one possible method of getting the...

An interesting service that’s been under wraps for a while, Harmony — created by the geniuses at Ordered List — has opened access to its documentation.
There goes my afternoon.

Straight From the Source
Inspired by Patrick’s post on Eating Well, here’s one change we’ve made to do just that.
Pictured here is how we get our milk each week. We purchase two 4 litre jars of milk from a farm just outside of town. This milk is the real thing people — that’s how it looks after the good stuff (cream) separates from the milk. No homogenization, no pasteurization, no steroids.

The Pulse of Tomorrow - An Interview with Michael...
This interview was originally published on an older blog of mine. I’ve been moving them over to here slowly, and this interview with Michael was before we worked together on Fusion.
One of the pleasures of this thing we call blogging is getting to know other people from all over the world and in various walks of life. One such person for me is another Mac oriented blogger by the name of...

An Ode to Droplr
Droplr was officially launched last night and is now available to the general public.
I’ve been using either Droplr or Cloud for the past 3 months and both are great tools. But Droplr comes out ahead in a few ways. For those who haven’t caught the bug yet, or who struggle to grasp how to make use of this type of a tool, here’s a list of things I regularly use Droplr for.

Eat Well →
My friend Patrick posted a nice summary on eating today. He includes some information about why most of what you buy today in the supermarket is not fit for consumption and where you can find better alternatives.
I loved reading this post, as it echoes the sentiments in our home. We try our best to purchase food that is grown as local as possible, and in season. This means two things: 1) we...

Tumblr and Audio
When I mentioned yesterday that Flavors.me added a play count beside your audio posts from Tumblr, I was — not surprisingly — unaware that this is available in Tumblr itself. Matthew Buchanan kindly pointed me to the appropriate help file.
As most things are with Tumblr, it’s easy to add this bit of information to your theme. Here’s how my code looks before and after adding the...

Multi-faceted: An Interview with Garrett Murray
In my various interviews over the past year, a common theme of mine has been the relationship between design and development on the web. I am curious to hear your thoughts on this as well.
As someone who dabbles in the creation of web sites as a hobby and follows the true professionals online, it appears that there are not a lot of people who are highly skilled on both sides of this fence. It...
