In the last 2 year it has become common to hear people say I don’t use RSS anymore (I’m referring to people in these circles, not the rest of the world like our parents, neighbors and coworkers). Initially, I could not disagree more—reading through my feeds was one of my more enjoyable activities.

But of late, I’ve started to see where these people are coming from. The move to Tumblr has played a roll in this. A lot of the blogs I used to subscribe to were Tumblr users, so it was easy to simply start following. The number of times I open my feed reader has slowly been decreasing.

This trend in my own habits was really noticeable in the past two days. I came back from a holiday this week and caught up to all the major news of the missed week entirely via Tumblr and Twitter. And while my usage of Tumblr has affected my usage of a RSS reader, it makes me wonder if this trend is bigger than I first thought.

How about you—is RSS still your primary source of staying up to date? If not, where do you get your news now?
