With the release of Google’s Quick Search Box (QSB) for the Mac being released today, I started to wonder again if it’s time to stop using Quicksilver and find an alternative. It’s safe to say a lot of people started thinking this way when Nicholas Jitkoff left for Google (especially when it was announced that he’s behind QSB). Quicksilver is now open source, but what does that mean in the long run?
I’ve been tempted a few times to make the switch to Launchbar, but the thought of having to pay for a tool that would replace a perfectly amazing free tool has not tasted quite right. The required money and time to learn a new tool has been too high of a price.
But with more solid options like Google’s QSB becoming available, is it time to drop Quicksilver? If yes, what is the best alternative?
