As a hobbyist in the area of web design, I’ve read a lot of articles over the years regarding various aspects of the industry. Many of them were tutorials, but tutorials that were only helpful to experienced professionals because of large gaps and missing ingredients.

Having just finished Meagan Fisher’s “Make Your Mockup in Markup” on 24 ways, I have to say this is probably the best article I’ve ever read. She starts at the beginning of the process, moves her way through the evolution of the design, describing the major steps along the way. She includes great examples and links to some of the best reference material available.

The touch of colourful humour also adds to the enjoyment. The article is well written, educating the reader if he/she is not familiar with some of the concepts, while at the same time still entertaining the web professional.

If you ever plan to write a how-to on web design, please pattern your post after this.
