To me this is so obvious, I didn’t consider it worth addressing. I say: yes, of course the App Store will be the only avenue for native third-party tablet apps.
This scares me more that anything that has come from Cupertino in recent years. If Apple does produce this tablet — and does anyone doubt it at this point — and they do indeed use the same model as the iPhone to sell 3rd party software for this new device, it leaves me wondering what will become of the Apple desktop.
If there was one thing that drew me to this platform, it was the indie development community and the astounding work they do in extending Apple’s amazing OS. I shudder to think of how things would go if Apple suddenly threw up the garden wall around Eden.
Update: for the sake of clarity, the platform I refer to is OS X and Apple’s “desktop” computers. I love the iPhone/Touch platform, and will most likely appreciate whatever this new device is, but the desktop is still king in my world.
